Are you ready for a Quilt Adventure?!

Join me in making a unique medallion quilt during 2021.

We will all start with the same central block and then at each patterned block/border you will receive at least two design options to chose from.

The Adventure Quilt Block of the Month (BOM) starts with everyone making the same central motif: the beginning of our story.

After this, for each of the patterned blocks/borders there will be a choice of at least two designs to make each month.

This is the perfect project if you want to experiment, create an individual quilt, and have all the calculations done for you!

Quilt Details

Finished size: 84" square quilt

For each of the patterned borders/blocks, you will be sent at least two options of designs to choose from.

The quilt layout is shown here, to give an idea of the different border styles included: a quilt of two halfs!

I am keeping some of the block designs secret, as part of the adventure!

All instructions will be available as step-by-step written and video instructions.

The blocks and borders are interchangeable so that you can pick the elements that you love, practise new skills (if you want) and create a quilt design that is unique to you.

Where you have a choice of blocks/borders, you will receive printable quilt plans so that you can cut and paste your preferred border to help you plan and visualise the next step.

Here are just a couple of ideas of how the finished quilts could look, although you are free to mix-and-match the borders any way you like!

The Block of the Month will also include regular live workshop sessions to discuss border/block choices, ask questions and progress sharing of the Adventure Quilt (these are to be arranged, and will be scheduled at alternating times for different time zones)

What's Included?

Each month, you'll receive step-by-step written instructions supported with video.

You will also be sent diagrams of each border option so that you can cut-out and 'build' your quilt to help visualise and plan each round.

During the year we will be covering a number of skills including (but not limited to) machine sewing, hand-piecing, curves and applique.

We will also cover techniques such as accurate piecing and rotary cutting.

Within the course, there will be an online forum (you don't need to be on Facebook!) where you can share you progress, ideas and generally chat about your Quilty Adventures!

The Mindful QAL was my perfect refuge in this difficult year. It gave me the opportunity to learn, to create, and feel a part of a quilting community, each month waiting for the new block instructions. I have loved watching my quilt grow, knowing there is not another like it in the world.

This is a large quilt finishing at 84" square.

The quilt has been designed as a scrap quilt (although it can easily be more co-ordinated!), with background fabric required for the plain borders and central medallion.

Fabric requirements will be published on the 15th December 2020.

The Adventure Quilt includes a mix of machine and hand sewing. Where blocks can be pieced either way, I will include instructions for both.

Skill wise, we will be practising accuracy, machine piecing, hand-piecing, curves and applique. Instructions will be included for applique by hand or by machine, depending on your preference.

You will need to know how to use a sewing machine and be willing to give things a go!

Every quilter was new at some point, and my favourite way of learning is by jumping in at the deep end and just giving it a go!

However, I am also a big fan of detail and will be including step-by-step written instructions along with video's for each months blocks/borders.

On blocks where it's feasible, I will include different techniques so that you try them out/choose a favourite.

Because of the nature of the Adventure Quilt BOM, if you want to change a border because you're finding it too tricky or you're not a fan of the style, then you can do this! I will include border size details at each stage so that you can find an alternative.

I will be making the quilt next year too - a few steps ahead of you - so I'm afraid there's no finished pictures to share with you just yet.

This also means that there might be some more inspiration that hits as we go along, or tweaks that can be made. However, the layout of the quilt as shown in the diagram will not change.

As it is a Medallion Quilt, and grows in size with each border, some of the outer borders may be worked on over a couple of months.

This is your quilt and life happens!

There is no pressure to keep up: the instructions will always be available to you when you are ready to get back to it, and you will receive a copy of the full pattern at the end of the year.

I have put a lot of time and effort into this design so that we can all have a fun, Quilty Adventure.

I would love it if you sew this project with friends - Adventures are more fun with company! - just please make sure that everyone buys their own copy of the pattern. Anyone found sharing log-in details will, I'm afraid, be blocked from the page.

Please also respect my copyright when sharing on social media and do not post detailed measurements or specific techniques that have been included within the course. Thank you.
